Trump’s intensifying legal drama could drag America closer to historic precipice

0
CNN  —  Donald Trump’s legal limbo appeared to get more precarious on Wednesday. The country gets closer every day to a political and judicial precipice that could see a former president indicted for the first time ever. The ex-commander in chief’s 2024 White House bid would make this historic twist even more inflammatory and amount to his greatest stress test yet of America’s legal and governing institutions and its brittle unity. And Trump is not just confronting a single case of potentially criminal vulnerability. New developments on multiple fronts suggest it’s possible he could be indicted in several separate investigations that are all apparently moving forward in a long-delayed crescendo of possible accountability. A fateful national moment is brewing amid Trump’s wild rhetoric and predictions of his own arrest, a political storm whipped up by his allies, and anticipation among those who have long chafed at his flair for impunity.…

CNN  —  An investigative journalist who detailed allegations of sexual abuse and harassment against the former Haitian Football Federation (FHF) president is now facing a defamation lawsuit designed to gag him, his lawyer tells CNN Sport. French journalist Romain Molina – who wrote news stories detailing the allegations against former FHF president Yves Jean-Bart to light – is set to appear in the Judicial Court of Paris on March 27 after Jean-Bart filed a complaint accusing Molina of defamation. World football governing body FIFA banned Jean-Bart from the sport for life in 2020, following an investigation by its ethics committee which found the former FHF boss had “abused his position and sexually harassed and abused various female players, including minors, in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.” Lawyers for Jean-Bart at the time called the ban a “travesty of justice” and said he expected to be “fully exonerated” and…

Taiwan recalls ambassador from Honduras, prepares to lose another diplomatic ally...

0
Hong Kong CNN  —  Taiwan announced Thursday it will recall its ambassador to Honduras as ties between the two worsen, with the Central American nation preparing to switch diplomatic recognition from the self-governing island to China. In a statement, Taiwan’s foreign ministry said it had recalled the ambassador to “express our strong dissatisfaction” over Honduras sending its foreign minister and a delegation to Beijing this week. The move “ignores the traditional friendship” between Honduras and Taiwan, which stretches back more than 80 years, and “seriously hurts the feelings of the Taiwan government and people,” said the statement. It added that Taiwan had “repeatedly reminded the Honduran government of the risk of trusting China’s commitment to establishing diplomatic relations.” Honduran President Xiomara Castro announced on March 15 that the country will establish diplomatic ties with China – a move that all but spells the end of its current relationship with Taiwan.…
