Spain’s Crown Princess Leonor to start three-year military training
CNN — Spain’s Crown Princess Leonor, the heir presumptive to the throne, will start three years of military training later this year in preparation for her future role as head of state, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday. “In the Cabinet Meeting today, we have approved a royal decree whose aim is to give structure to the military training and career of (Princess Leonor),” Robles said. As the elder of King Felipe VI’s two daughters, the 17-year-old is first in the line of succession and so will become the supreme commander of the armed forces when her father either steps down or dies. Leonor’s military training will last for three years as she spends a year each with Spain’s army, navy and air force at their respective academies, just as her father did years earlier, before becoming king. “It shows that we will have,…

Unlike the US, Europe kept its banks on a tight rein...
London CNN — Shares in European banks slumped Wednesday as speculation about the health of Credit Suisse (CSGKF) reignited the market turmoil sparked by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. Yet Europe’s lenders are in a stronger position than many of their US peers to weather rising interest rates and the storm unleashed by the demise of SVB and another regional player, Signature Bank, analysts tell CNN. The rout in bank stocks has been much less severe in Europe than in the United States since the wheels started to come off SVB last Wednesday. Europe’s benchmark Stoxx Europe 600 Banks index, which tracks 42 big EU and UK banks, has fallen 13%since last Wednesday’s close. Meanwhile, the KBW Bank Index, which tracks 24 leading US banks, has plummeted nearly 23%. On Tuesday, rating agency Moody’s downgraded its outlook for the entire US banking sector, and said it expected to see…

The acquisition of Mint Mobile’s parent Ka’ena Corporation will also include Ultra Mobile, an international calling service, and wireless wholesaler Plum. Reynolds, who purchased a minority ownership stake in Mint Mobile in 2019, will stay on in his “creative role on behalf of Mint,” where he serves as a spokesperson, according to a press release announcing the deal. “I never dreamt I’d own a wireless company and I certainly never dreamt I’d sell it to T-Mobile,” Reynolds wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “Life is strange and I’m incredibly proud and grateful.” When Reynolds bought a stake in Mint, he called the decision “a bit unconventional” in a statement at the time. “Celebrities generally invest in high-end products like…

Located below a hill, the township saw water gushing down from above on Sunday night. Authorities say over 30 people from the area have died and dozens remain missing as search and rescue efforts continue. People could be seen on Monday using shovels, even bare hands, to search for the people in the rubble.
